Indigenous-led employment and training since 1998.
We work with 12 First Nations across Ontario to remove barriers and move Indigenous people into meaningful work, while staying rooted in culture and community.
Who we are
We have been an Indigenous-led employment and training agency since 1998, mandated by 12 First Nations and working through nine local Service Providers (LDMs) across Ontario. Our measure of success is simple: when the training is complete and the person has a job, that is us.
OUR VISION
Aboriginal peoples are moving towards full jurisdiction over employment and training.
Through the implementation of the ALFDC strategy, we will work collectively to strengthen our institutions, our capabilities and our ability to control our own systems. We will work collectively to provide training opportunities and choices that support the right of Aboriginal peoples to achieve self-empowerment through work while protecting their cultural identity.

Stories and outcomes
“I am an Operator-in-training working at the Belleville Water Treatment Plant, which provides Belleville with clean drinking water. I started out with only classroom knowledge of how treatment processes work, but now I’m confidently helping my coworkers operate the plant. This opportunity came about because ALFDC connected me with, and facilitated an opportunity for the City of Belleville to bring me on as an intern. ALFDC’s support has given me training opportunities and the chance to explore water treatment as a career, while also allowing the operators at the BWTP to get to know me. I’m hopeful that the experience and skills I’ve gained will help me secure a long term role with the City, where I can continue to expand my knowledge of water treatment. “

We are funded through federal and provincial agreements, including ISETS and Reaching Home, and we report back to communities and funders. This reflects the principle that Indigenous data and decisions stay in Indigenous hands.
