Meeting in the Middle
An engagement strategy and action plan for how the City of Toronto and Indigenous organizations work together to address Indigenous homelessness in the city.
What it is
Meeting in the Middle is an engagement strategy and action plan, co-created in 2018 by the City of Toronto’s Shelter, Support and Housing Administration (SSHA) and the Toronto Aboriginal Support Services Council (TASSC), with funding from the Government of Canada. It sets out how the City and Indigenous organizations build and hold a working relationship focused on addressing Indigenous homelessness in Toronto.
It grew out of a three-day facilitated session where SSHA and Indigenous leaders came together, set commitments to one another, and agreed on ways to stay accountable.
Where ALFDC fits
As the Indigenous Community Entity for Reaching Home in Toronto, ALFDC carries this relationship-based way of working into how funding and partnerships are handled across the city.
