Train the Trainer: Health & Safety
2026 · in partnership with Safety Guys Workplace Safety Trainers
Offered for the first time in 2026, the Train-the-Trainer Health & Safety Program was delivered to 11 trainees from across the province, in partnership with Safety Guys Workplace Safety Trainers.
Health and safety education protects workers, prevents injuries, supports legal compliance, and builds strong safety cultures on the job. By increasing local access to certified safety instruction, the program strengthened workforce readiness and safer workplaces across Indigenous communities throughout Ontario.
The newly certified trainers have since returned to their home communities, equipped with the knowledge, tools, and certification to deliver workplace health and safety training locally.

Canadian Playground Inspection Training

Canadian Playground Inspection Training
Offered in 2022 and again in 2025
Offered in both 2022 and 2025, the CPSI Training Program gives participants the knowledge and practical skills to inspect playgrounds and ensure they meet the CSA Z614 Children’s Playspaces and Equipment safety standard.
The program combines theory with hands-on practical training, preparing participants to carry out playground inspections and safety audits.
Participants who complete both components and pass the required examinations earn the nationally recognized Canadian Certified Playground Inspector designation, valid for three years.

Women in the Trades
PAST EVENT · 2021 PILOT
Women in the Trades: Transitional Homes
2021 pilot · homes completed March 2022
This 2021 pilot set out to build affordable transitional homes for women and families leaving domestic violence. With funding from sponsors including Indigenous Services Canada and the provincial Ministry of Labour and Training, a team of five women trained on the job and, with mentorship, built two homes.
Each home is about 2,700 square feet, with two bedrooms, a bathroom, an open-concept living, dining, and kitchen area, storage, and on-site laundry. The homes were completed in March 2022.
The program paired real construction skills with the chance to build something their community needed.

ALFDC’S TECHNOLOGY & SKILLS EXPLORATION ZONE
DRIVING SIMULATOR LAB
Here we offer Driving Simulators that allow our community and indigenous youth to learn safe driving skills in a safe and secure space before hitting the roads. Our Driving Simulators are for community members aged 15+, and is free to use.
WHAT WE HAVE
3 Driving Simulators each complete and equipped with H pattern shifters and Handbrakes.
2 VR Headsets to use on Driving Simulators.

Tuesday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Wednesday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Thursday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Friday: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
